题目:Statistical Modeling of Cellular Heterogeneity by Single-Cell RNA Sequencing


摘要:Recent technological breakthroughs have made it possible to measure gene expression at the single-cell level, thus allowing biologists and clinicians to better understand cellular heterogeneity and modify cell behavior through targeted molecular therapies. However, single-cell RNA sequencing protocols are complex. Even with the most sensitive platforms, the data are often noisy owing to a high frequency of dropout events, and the phenomenon of tran1111ional bursting in which pulses of tran1111ional activity are followed by inactive refractory periods. In this talk, I will present several statistical methods that aim to tackle these challenges for a better understanding of cellular heterogeneity. I will illustrate our methods by showing results from ongoing collaborations. With the growing interest in utilizing single-cell RNA sequencing in biomedical research, our methods will aid biomedical researchers to answer medically related questions and make exciting discoveries.


简介:Dr. Mingyao Li is Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Informatics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. She received her BS in Mathematics from Nankai University in 1996, and PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Michigan in 2005. She joined the Biostatistics faculty at the University of Pennsylvania in 2006. Dr. Li is a fellow of the American Statistical Association and an elected member of the International Statistical Institute. Her main research area is statistical genetics and genomics. She has published >140 peer reviewed publications, including first author papers in Science, Nature Genetics, and The Lancet.
