Professor Chen Yibing was born in December 1952, in Xinyang, Henan Province. He worked first in Shunyi, Beijing, and then at the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics from March 1969 to September 1979. He studied in the Department of Planning and Statistics at Renmin University of China from 1979 to 1983, and worked as a teacher at the university after graduation. He went to study, first as a visiting scholar at the New York Institute of Insurance, and then at the City University of New York from October 1990 to July 1995, he completed his postgraduate studies and received his Master's Degree in Economics in 1995. On returning to China he began teaching in the Department of Statistics at the RUC. The courses he taught include Risk Management and Insurance, and professional English. From October 1997, he took up positions as the Director of the President's Office of the RUC,and Vice Chairman of the RUC Teachers'Federation. He was appointed as Vice Chairman of the University Council in January 2002, and then became Vice President of Renmin University of China in September 2002.
The major awards Prof Chen has been granted include a first-class University Teaching Achievement Prize in Beijing in 1997, a prize for distinguished teachers in 1998, plus many other awards granted by RUC.
